Breast Pump Rentals

When you have a newborn, your body will adjust to making the right amount of milk for their needs, but it doesn’t happen overnight and there are many variables!  Renting a breast pump is ideal if you have needs that require more efficient pumping.

Why Rent A Breast Pump?

If you have low milk supply, a premature baby, a baby that is unable to breastfeed, or if you have twins and need to produce extra milk a hospital-grade breast pump can be a huge help.  Hospital grade pumps are designed for multiple users, meaning it is safe for you to rent a pump.  A personal use pump is not safe to share or borrow as they are meant for use by only one person due  possible contamination concerns.

“My twins were born at 31 weeks and 2 days and they were 3 lbs 10.5 ounces at birth. Using the Ameda Platinum pump I was able to provide exclusive breast milk with only one day of donor milk that the hospital provided.”

3 Reasons To Rent

You need a “stronger pump” because you have a preemie or a baby that is not feeding properly, so you want to give your body the best chance to make enough milk.

Your lactation consultant or healthcare professional has recommended that you try a hospital pump if you are having issues maintaining your supply.

Renting might be your best (and most cost-effective) option if you are undecided about pumping or if you plan to pump for less than six months.

Renting Vs Purchasing A Breast Pump

If you plan to pump longer than six months and have a healthy baby and good milk supply, it might be more cost effective to purchase a pump. Remember—you’ll be able to use it with future children, too. Manual pumps are also a cost-effective alternative if you plan to pump only occasionally.

No matter which way you go there is an important factor to consider, it’s best not to buy or borrow a used pump due to the risk of cross-contamination. Hospital-grade rentals are approved by Health Canada for multiple users.

If you have a collection kit, make sure its compatible with the pump.  For any Ameda pump you will need an Ameda HygieniKit. If you don’t have one then you will need to purchase a kit in order to use the pump.

You have the option to purchase a single collection kit or a time saving dual kit which will allow you to pump both breasts at the same time.  It has been proven that mothers who double pump produce more milk.

There are 2 Ameda pumps to rent:  the Ameda Elite or the Ameda Platinum. They both have independent suction and speed control, but the Ameda Platinum has slightly higher speed, is digital and a timer to track how long your pumping session goes for.

Ameda does not offer automatic presets because they know that no two moms are alike. By offering custom control, moms find their perfect pump setting each time.

The Ameda Elite

The Ameda Platinum

“The Ameda Platinum pump is amazing and I am thrilled that I had the opportunity to use one. I was surprised and impressed by how solid the machine felt, the ease of use and how clear it was to understand feedback from the machine, including speed and time. These features were extra valuable especially when pumping every couple of hours. In the beginning, I was not producing enough milk to feed my daughter and had to supplement with formula. Within a few days of using the Platinum, my milk supply more than doubled and within a week the baby was exclusively getting my breast milk. I am so grateful for the Platinum pump and the support it gave me in developing a strong milk supply.”
