FAQ Instructions
The devices are very similar. The main difference between the devices are the batteries – the Elise has a rechargeable battery and the Perfect PFE uses AA batteries. The Perfect PFE has an optional pain program to help manage pelvic pain.
You need to use the device at least 4 times per week for 20 minutes per session for stress incontinence. Urge incontinence treatment is best if done every day. It works the best if you can sit in a chair or relaxed on your bed. Take some time for you!
It is different for everyone but usually 4-6 weeks for stress incontinence and 2-4 weeks for urge incontinence. This is with consistent use.
Make sure you are relaxed and have gone to the bathroom recently. Insert the probe into your vagina (or anus if using a rectal probe) using a water based lubricant (not silicone). Make sure the probe has the metal electrodes facing left to right (not up and down).
It is different for everyone, and it can vary from day to day. It also depends on the program you are using. Don’t be afraid to keep increasing if you are not feeling anything. You should feel a tingle sensation to start, and then as you increase more the contraction can be felt. Some people feel it in the 20’s and some in the 50’s. It varies depending on how much stimulation in required to contract your muscle. People often call our warranty line to say it is not working, but they just have not increased the output until their body feels it. If you are nervous just push the up arrow and don’t hold it down. If you push the push the button it goes up slowly, if you hold it the output increases more rapidly.
The perfect PFE and the Elise both monitor the connection and the contact between you and the probe, or the pads. This is to prevent sudden changes if a broken connection is re-made. If poor connection is detected, the display will flash “LEADS” and the intensity will go to zero. Check the lead and if necessary, lubricate the probe with a water-based lubricant such as TensCare Go Gel (see K-GO).
If there is a break in the wires anywhere between the probe and the machine, you will get a leads error. You will have to replace the lead wires in this case. The most common cause of LEADS is a kink in the wire where the probe and the wires connect.
EMS incontinence stimulation works by using electrical impulses to trigger muscle contractions within the pelvic floor to retrain, strengthen and rehabilitate weak muscles. This improves the symptoms of, and can even cure, conditions such as urinary and faecal incontinence in both men and women, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and more.
An electrical current is delivered through an intra-vaginal probe for women or a rectal probe (Type XPR) for men. In women, the second channel can be used with an optional rectal probe to give increased response. External surface electrodes may be used as an alternative if internal probes are not appropriate.
This is normal in the Stress and Tone program! The program works on the principal of contraction and relaxation being of equal importance. The device ramps up for the contraction and then goes back to zero for the relaxation. In the stress program the 0 will stay for 10 seconds. In the Tone Program the rest or 0 is 6 seconds. In the other programs there is no rest period so the program is more constant.
Increase the strength as high as it is comfortable, and then take it back down one step. The strength display on the control unit will reduce to 0 and flash during the rest period.
Electrical stimulation works in different ways depending on the program used.
The STRESS incontinence program is based on strengthening the muscles of the pelvic floor by electrical stimulation.
Once muscular strength has been improved, these muscles are better able to resist urinary leakage caused by external pressure being applied to the bladder – such as with a cough, sneeze or physical exertion.
Increase the stimulation intensity until you feel a strong but comfortable sensation of ”tightening or lifting”. The stimulation lasts five seconds and then stops for ten seconds. Continue to increase the intensity until it is as high as you can comfortably stand. You will start to feel sensation at a level BEFORE the muscle starts to contract. With STRESS Incontinence, improvement comes slowly with the building of muscle fibre, nerve sensitivity and blood supply. Successful treatment will require stimulation once a day, 3-4 times per week for one to three months.
URGE incontinence is primarily the unwanted and unexpected emptying of the bladder due to its muscles contracting involuntarily.
A lower-frequency current has been shown to have a beneficial effect in reducing the involuntary contractions in URGE Incontinence. It works by slowing down the rate of false signals sent to the brain.
With URGE Incontinence, improvements can be seen in as little as two weeks.
The probe supplied is intended for single patient use. It is important that the probe is cleaned after each use. Clean in warm soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. The probe should be replaced every six months.
Probe Care
Probes normally last 3-6 months depending on frequency of use and care taken of them. To get the most out of your probe, follow the below advice.
Cleaning
It is important to clean and dry your probe before and after each use. You can use an alcohol-free anti-bacterial wipe or a cloth dampened with warm soapy water to clean the probe, and a clean towel or paper towel to dry. Do not immerse the probe in a liquid. Do not use any other cleaning solution.
• It is important not to bend or pull on the probe leads, do not pick up the device using the leads or probe
• Avoid bending or putting pressure on the leads where the lead joins the plug or the probe
• Always remove the probe by gripping the base of the probe just under the flare, not by pulling on the leads
• Keep your probe and leads clean and dry when not in use
• Do not wrap leads around the probe, machine or other objects, especially when storing. This can put unnecessary strain on them
Always make sure your probe is dry before storing. Keep the probe in your device storage pouch in a cool dry place. Make sure not to kink or bend the wires near the base of the probe as this will decrease the life expectancy of the probe.

Breast pumps and TensCare Devices are considered Class II medical devices and are non-returnable unless they are unopened and the safety seal is intact. Each pump and device comes with a two year warranty, if you are having any issues please contact us for troubleshooting and potential replacement.
